Agreement between Manchester City and Leeds for Kalvin Phillips, another nice transfer window after Haaland
Manchester City have reached an agreement with Leeds United for the signing of Kalvin Phillips, according to Athleticism. The English international “is getting closer to a transfer to the Etihad following positive discussions” between the two clubs on the amount of the transfer, says the English site.
An agreement for a transfer to 52 million euros
The Citizens would be ready to pay 52 million euros, including around three million in bonuses. The Peacocks midfielder was the club’s main target this summer and the Premier League champions have stepped up their interest in him after completing the move of striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund last week.
The 26-year-old is currently on vacation and is due to return to pre-season training with Leeds on July 4, nine days from now, but progress in negotiations could allow terms for a transfer to be finalized next week. Phillips, who came through Leeds academy and made his first appearances under former club manager Marcelo Bielsa, has two more years on his contract at Elland Road.
An American to replace him?
Athletic claim the player is keen on joining City, as a move would secure him a Champions League spot next season and likely a place in England’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar. Leeds have already anticipated his departure by recruiting Spanish midfielder Marc Roca from Bayern Munich. However, the site assures that Leeds will recruit an additional player in the midfield in the event of the departure of their flagship midfielder.
Current RB Leipzig player, American Tyler Adams must be one of the options they are watching. Adams played under Leeds manager Jesse Marsch at his first club, New York Red Bulls. The American coach arrived to succeed Bielsea has already been recruited from another American environment this summer: the young Brenden Aaronson, from Red Bull Salzburg.
