an exhibition puts the resistant Joséphine Baker in the spotlight
“Joséphine Baker, a life of commitments”, settles in Departmental Museum of Resistance and Deportation In Toulouse. From this Saturday, June 25, this new exhibition highlights different themes in the life of the artist and resistance fighter. She met particular emphasis on her World War II engagement pendant. Open days are organized throughout this first weekend open to the public.
An exhibition of rare pieces from the life of Josephine Baker
The “artist’s freedom” of Josephine Baker, his struggles and his legacy are all presented to the public. The exhibition highlights his commitment to France “alongside those who fought against racism and anti-Semitism in the world”, as presented in a press release from the Haute-Garonne departmental council.
The exhibition also questions the many faces of Josephine Baker, while paying homage to discreet or well-known personalities who, paradoxically, remain forgotten faces of the Resistance”.
Throughout the exhibition, the most curious will discover stage dresses, wigs, uniforms, lithographs, vinyl records, newspapers, as well as around fifty photos of the artist. Parts of which many have never been presented to the public according to the department.
