30,000 participants on Saturday: G7 major demo paralyzes Munich | Regional
Munich – Nothing works on Saturdays in Munich!
Around 30,000 people want to demonstrate against the G7 summit from 12 p.m. The demo starts at the Theresienwiese. From there it goes back via Schwanthalerstraße, Sendlinger-Tor-Platz and Lindwurmstraße.
Police Vice President and Head of Operations Michael Dibowski: “We have nothing against peaceful demos, quite the opposite. Freedom of assembly is a fundamental right based on shared responsibility.”
But: “We also expect a black block from the left-wing autonomous scene in the high three-digit range. Although the mobilization is not as strong as at the G7 summit seven years ago, it is still nationwide,” said Dibowski.
The head of operations makes it clear: “If members of the left-wing autonomous scene try to live out their potential for violence – in the protection of the majority of peaceful participants in the meeting – the Munich police will take consistent action against it.” Around 3,000 police officers will be on duty during the large-scale demonstration. It should end around 2:30 p.m.
Dibowski appealed to the people of Munich: “I recommend that citizens use local public transport on Saturday. There will be significant traffic disruptions.”
What’s more, the “Fantastischen Vier” will be performing on Königsplatz in the middle of the city on Saturday evening. Admission for around 20,000 concert guests opens at 5 p.m. There will also be road closures here.
