Toulouse: a couple attacked in Corsica by wild pigs, their dog devoured before their eyes
A couple from Toulouse who went on vacation to Corsica in early June saw the few days of relaxation turn into tragedy when they were attacked by Corsican pigs.
Just remembering the scene makes Nadine* tremble. On June 7th with her husband, her relative from the Toulouse suburbs to go to Corsica for two weeks under the sign of visit and relaxation. But their holidays literally turned into a nightmare, as our colleagues from Corsica Morning.
Contacted by us, the couple wanted to testify to the tragedy. On June 9, at the end of the day, out and about in their converted van on the west coast of the Isle of Beauty, towards the Gulf of Porto, the couple decided to stop at the Col de Sevi “to take some pictures “. While Nadine* and Didier* go out accompanied by their two dogs tied on a leash, a yorkshire terrier and a chihuahua, to go a few hundred meters from the place offering a breathtaking view of the creeks “about twenty Corsican pigs, out of nowhere, we surrounded”, still says in shock the Toulousaine of about sixty years. “After everything happens very quickly, I am hit several times by these pigs, also bitten everywhere”, confides, traumatized, this resident of northern Toulouse.
But the strength of the wild animals prevents her from getting up, her husband tries to help her, in vain. “After being hit again, I glided two meters while my partner tried to hold the dogs up at arm’s length in order to save them,” she says, totally traumatized. The scene will turn to horror when the pigs will attack the chihuahua. “I don’t know why but I had the reflex to untie one of the dogs who escaped into the maquis but I didn’t have time for the other”, says, very moved, Didier.
“It was chaos”
The couple’s Chihuahua, named Chica, 8 and a half years old, was eaten alive by the pigs in front of its owners. “Frankly, it was Walking Dead, they were crowded on the dog, it was chaos,” says Nadine again, struggling to hide her sadness. Under the shock and the stroke of emotion, the two sexagenarians rule their truck parked below. “I had lost my glasses, no more shoes, no cell phone, we were in a terrible state, injured everywhere”, describes the owner of the dogs. They then go to a nearby on-call doctor where they receive a tetanus shot booster and ask for them. Then, they spend the night in a campsite “to wash up” and shorten their vacation by returning to the continent the next day.
Warning signs
Back in the Toulouse suburbs, Nadine is haunted by the sound of these animals devouring her dog and cannot help replaying the scene over and over again, causing fits of tears and anxiety. She also suffers a lot due to a major injury behind the knee requiring the regular passage of a nurse. “If I agree to tell all this, it’s to alert people. In place of my dog, imagine if it had been a child. I’ve been there about ten times, that we meet pigs on the loose, never in my life, I would have thought that such a thing could happen to me”, she insists.
The couple still filed a complaint on Tuesday with the gendarmerie and took steps to have their injuries recorded by a medical examiner. “What I find deplorable is that we are almost told that it is our fault and that we cannot do anything”, deplores Didier, who is convinced that these pigs belong to someone. a UN.
For his wife, signs indicate the presence of pigs in freedom and the behavior to adopt in their presence supposed to be installed in order to avoid this kind of drama. She insists that during research, she discovered that this was not the first time that people have been the target of this type of attack. At the beginning of January, an 18-year-old young man was injured by several pigs while he was walking in the northeast of Corsica. He had to be hospitalized due to his injuries.
