Avignon Festival
Steered for the last time by Olivier Py before it was taken over in September by the brilliant Portuguese Tiago Rodrigues, the Avignon Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world (OFF included, of course) presents for its 76th edition a poster in balance. Balance between genres, disciplines, generations and origins, between established values and discoveries.
In the abundant IN poster, we note in particular Stormadaptation of the Shakespearian classic by the Italian esthete Alessandro Serra, who had offered Liège his sumptuous macbettu (already according to Shakespeare) in the Sardinian dialect. Another darling, the French choreographer François Chaignaud defended his show created at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts: Tumulus , a hybrid of dance and song in collaboration with Geoffroy Jourdain and his Cris de Paris. Another very prominent choreographer from France, Amala Dianor will be present with two shows: Emaphakathini and Via Injabuloboth integrated South African dancers from the Via Katlehong company.
Among the great international names, the filmmaker and director Kirill Serebrennikov represented, in a tense political context, the Russian artistic heritage with his version of black monk by Chekhov. Kae Tempest will perform lyrics from her album The line is a curve, accompanied on keyboards by Hinako Omori. As for the Iranian Amir Reza Koohestani, he will invest the gymnasium of the Lycée Mistral with his adaptation of the novel by Anna Seghers, Transit.
It is impossible to complete this quick overview without consenting to the Belgian delegation. In addition to Jan Martens in the main courtyard, the turbulent, Miet Warlopra unveils A songthe fourth chapter of History(ies) of the theater by Milo Rau, and on the Wallonia-Brussels Federation side, the duo Sophie Linsmaux-Aurelio Mergola (Still Life company) will go through the four chapters of their wordless compilation around the body, appearance and fake, Fleshcreated at Les Tanneurs last February.
In Avignon, from July 7 to 26.
