Traditions: the challenge of the Gioco del Ponte returns to Pisa – Tuscany
(ANSA) – PISA, 21 JUN – Next Saturday June Pisano will experience its highlight with the Gioco del Ponte, when on the Ponte di Mezzo, in the center of Pisa, the two parts of the city, Mezzogiorno and Tramontana, will return to compete on the trolley after the two-year stop due to Covid. The assembly works of the stands on Lungarno Gambacorti (Mezzogiorno) and Lungarno Mediceo (Tramontana) have also already begun, which can hold about 2,700 seats, in a rather central position with respect to the race even if with a reduced capacity in previous years due to the works of restoration in progress on the facade of Palazzo Pretorio on Lungarno Galilei.
From 8am tomorrow, Wednesday 22 June, tickets to watch the Gioco del Ponte will be available and will be free but reservations are required via the website www.eventbrite.it. The Gioco del Ponte is a re-evocative historical event that is divided into two distinct but equally significant moments: the Historical Parade on the Lungarni (with over 700 participants) in the afternoon and the ‘battle’, set on the Ponte di Mezzo at night, where the teams neighborhoods belonging to the two rival city factions demonstrate their respective physical power by pushing a heavy cart positioned at the center of the bridge from behind which, depending on the trajectory, forces one or the other team to push uphill.
