This is the performance of the year for a sportsman from Toulouse! Saturday June 18, 2022, Léon Marchand (20), TOEC swimmer, became world champion in the 400m medley in 4’04”28, the new European record.

This extraordinary performance – he largely beat his personal best – was achieved in the Budapest basin. It is simply the second best performance in the world behind the world record of Michael Phelps, 4’03 “84, achieved at the Beijing Games in 2008.
This now ranks Léon Marchand in the pantheon of tricolor swimming and places him in the figures of world swimming.
A remarkable journey
In Budapest, he beat the Americans Carson Foster (4’06”56) and Chase Kalisz (4’07”47), reigning Olympic champions, relegated to more than two seconds.
