Greece: Thalis Tsirimokos died
Mourning in Greek football as the veteran striker Thalis Tsirimokos who had played for PAS Giannina, Aris, OFI and Apollon Smyrni died at the age of 68. He was the first football player to be awarded the “Fair Play” award in Greece.
In the early hours of Sunday, Thales Tsirimokos suddenly passed away at the age of 68 with his loss causing grief throughout Greek football as he is a great striker who at the level of A ‘Ethniki had played in PAS Giannina, Aris, OFI . and Apollo of Smyrna.
While after the end of his football career he was also the coach of teams C ‘and B’ Ethniki with the last term in the National in the season 2010-11. He was also an associate of Angelos Anastasiadis at PAOK, but also the general leader of PAS.
Tsirimokos had started his career as a basketball player and in fact was in the Panathinaikos youth team. In fact, in 1978 he had joined the clover team as a footballer, but he only played in a few friendlies and left to go to Kallithea. In 1979-80 he became the second scorer of A ‘Ethniki with PAS, behind Bajevic, but also the third scorer of the category with OFI in 1982-83.
The first football player to be given the “Fair Play” award, when in an OFI-Olympiacos game in the 1983-84 season he went and kissed Nikos Sarganis, who played for the “red and whites”, after a great repulse that he had made to Vlastos’ head. .
