Green light for the creation of the European Genomic Institute. DNA mapping of San Marino people is under study

One year we told how a world leader in the analysis of the human genome was ready to settle in San Marino with a multi-million investment. The objective becomes more concrete: the State Congress has in fact given the green light to creation of the European Genomic Institute – which includes a project of collaboration with the Secretariat of Health for a study on the free mapping of San Marino citizens.
The country, with its millennial history of entire generations lived in the area, it is in fact particularly interesting from the scientific point of view. At the head of the company, which should build its laboratories in the Galazzano area, is Andrea Riposati, CEO of Dante Labs, a multinational company based in Aquila present in 90 countries around the world and which has recently also settled in Dubai.
Born as a start-up in 2016, it evolves during the pandemic, shifting its technologies to the ongoing emergency. Having obtained the authorization for the creation of the Genomic Institute from the San Marino government, the green light for its operation is now lacking. There are steps to be taken, in compliance with the rules for accreditation and the quality of the services provided. Compared, however, to the mapping project, to be confirmed by the bioethics committee the protection requirements provided for by the privacy regulations. The field of action of the company, being targeted, requires qualified personnel, not easy to find. The research will also be internal, focusing on training.
