PRESENTATION
by Enrico Bottino – Trekking promoter
Staying in the city on Sunday can be the winning strategy, it could be one of the lucky few who, when evening arrives, circulate virtuous behavior … walking. The leitmotif is the sunset over the Gulf of Genoa and the enchantment of scents and colors of the broom illuminated in the darkness by torches. An evening different from the usual, within everyone’s reach, even for those who do not have a car thanks to the bus line number 516 that goes up from Nervi to Sant’Ilario.
THE ITINERARY
Waiting for sunset to arrive, there is nothing more idyllic than lying on the top of a mountain, facing that sea where our ancestors followed the maritime routes of the glorious Maritime Republic. It’s like the premiere of a show at the theater: you sit back and enjoy what is about to begin, the sunset over the Gulf. After the greeting of the sun, other protagonists enter the scene, the stars, to recite with the headlamps the last act of the day, before it arrives there. From the Church of Sant’Ilario, the itinerary follows the direction of the Church of San Rocco, from where the view of Nervi opens up like a deep breath.
Continuing uphill along a beautiful crêuza you gain altitude up to the Serra di Cantalupo, from where you enter the woods, leaving behind the noises of civilization. Walking through the trees, along the mule track, regenerates and allows you to see the excursion with a different look! From the top of Monte Giugo, once the sun has set, a new start with the headlamps: you lose altitude thanks to a path that leads back to the Church of Sant’Ilario among strips, orchards and gardens and above all surprising blooms of broom.
IMPORTANT NOTE
The itinerary sees the participation of an environmental excursion guide (GAE), a professional figure who has the main task of accompanying the group by illustrating the cultural, environmental, morphological and landscape characteristics of the area visited.
