DLRG saves canoeist from Stoessensee from drowning
Lifeguards have one Canoeist who couldn’t swim before drowning from the Stoessensee in Berlin saved. The approximately 35-year-old woman overturned her boat on the water in western Berlin on Sunday afternoon and got under the canoe, as the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) announced.
Lifeguards monitored the incident, one immediately jumped into the water, and another came from a lifeboat. The canoeist was brought to safety, suffering from shortness of breath and in shock.
According to a DLRG spokesman, the rescuers deployed to Berlin on Sunday for a total of 21 missions. A week ago, an abandoned canoe on Lake Wannsee triggered a major search operation. Dozens of forces from the police, fire brigade, German Red Cross and DLRG are looking for three men, and the search was stopped after around 90 minutes. Because the three were not reported missing, it is assumed that no one was harmed, a police spokesman said.
According to the DLRG, eight people drowned in Berlin last year – three fewer than the year before. (dpa)
