Van Gennip wants to bring French and Spanish unemployed to the Netherlands
Companies facing labor shortages may also consider hiring more French and Spanish young people. That is what Minister Karien van Gennip of Social Affairs suggests. The idea of attracting foreign workers to the Netherlands is rife on social media. Often furious.
Minister of Gennip suggested her plan in an interview this morning met it General Newspaper† But the minister also feels “a great responsibility for the one million Dutch people who are still on the side”. In the Netherlands, employers in many sectors are currently finding it difficult to find staff.
‘There are enough French and Spanish workers’
There are sufficient available workers in Europe, says Minister Van Gennip. “I can imagine that we look in that French language or, for example, Spanish school leavers to have them work here in the catering industry or horticulture. There are already Spanish young people working here in cafes and restaurants.” The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment clarified has been made. The cabinet is not proactive about French and Spanish migrants either.
“But if we want to function as one Europe, we must also be concerned about youth unemployment in other European countries,” says Van Gennip. She has worked in France herself. “People in Europe can just come here”, inside she. mainly labor migrants in the Netherlands mainly come from Eastern European countries such as Poland.
A lot to do about labor migrants, even now
There has been a lot of talk about dealing with migrant workers for years, especially recently. The labor inspectorate also recently raised the alarm and asked for a stop to migration. But it’s not that simple, says Van Gennip. “Our economy therefore also runs to a large extent on labor migrants.” The minister does, however, oppose, partly at the urging of the House of Representatives, a Brussels plan to bring labor migrants from North Africa to Europe.
The reactions to the plan about French and Spanish young people are numerous this morning. For example, PVV member Geert Wilders does not like the idea. His hasty reaction came quickly:
So that’s what the cabinet wants: the Dutch farmers out and the Algerians and Moroccans from France in. #newelections
— Geert Wilders (@geertwilderspvv) June 14, 2022
Wilders shares more: “It’s getting crazier. One day the farmers have to be destroyed, the next day mega asylum seekers centers are being added and today we are going to bring French unemployed people here from the dangerous banlieues. The Netherlands must necessarily be destroyed.”
More anger at Van Gennip in the House of Representatives
There is more anger in the House of Representatives, with no longer waiting for a debate. Starts are being made on Twitter, today for example by Forum for Democracy, JA21 and BVNL (van Wybren van Haga). The latter has requested a debate ‘about the cabinet of curiosities’.
just has @BVNLNetherlands requested two debates on the ‘policy’ of this cabinet of curiosities: from the @Telegraph about the #reception crisis and off @ADnl about bringing French problem young people to the Netherlands. A few other reactions, not from the House of Representatives, in a row.
otherworldly @karienvangennip rather buy EU citizens than Moroccans, Algerians and so on to NL. So she goes to draw on the French banlieues. she still brings in the Moroccans and Algerians, but then with a track record of problem behaviour.

It is not without reason that these guys are unemployed and have no chance…
And French unemployed young people who die in the Netherlands go to work in the catering industry…
How will that go do you think?#French #France from Gennip— Ivar Mol (@IvarMol) June 14, 2022
Who even drops Karien van Gennip off in a French banlieue? Like in the capital of France but actually a real French city in one image in a district where it is sure of being alive. They want to bring these people here.

I like people who think out of the box.
But why do we always have to grow?
If there are no people, can we not clean up certain jobs/sectors?

The distance from politics to the population is once again made clear through an idea.

Bringing French, circular young people from France and Spain to the Netherlands to work in the hospitality industry (don’t come with your rolex) and horticulture (what’s the difference between a tomato and a strawberry?). Oh yes, and where should these acquisitions go live?
