The Danes sniff at the title match in the national league – France in danger of relegation
Jonas Wind and Andreas Skov Olsen scored the Danish goals in the Park before the break. With the victory, Denmark stands with nine points out of twelve possible in the A-division’s group 1.
Croatia is closest with its seven points ahead of the last matches in September. Then the Danes will go to Zagreb for what will soon be a final for first place and a ticket to the final game for the national league title.
It will be contested by four top-level group winners in June next year. It happens without the reigning champion in France, who on Monday smoked 0-1 at home against Croatia after an early penalty goal from Luka Modric.
Kylian Mbappé and Karim Benzema played at the top, but the striker duo never managed to lead France back into the match again.
Now “Les Bleus” must do a job to steer clear of relegation to the B division. The French have only two points in four games, while Ralf Rangnick-led Austria has twice as many.
In Copenhagen, Wind made it 1-0 after a half-played round. A long ball stressed the Austrians, and Joakim Mæhle took it with him further in the box. Then he played for Wind in a better position.
A quarter of an hour later, there was a good rhythm in the Denmark attack. The hosts won the ball high, and in the end Skov Olsen ruled in 2-0 with the inside of the foot.
At the back, substitute Christian Eriksen was a metal hit away from putting on 3-0.
