Rangnick’s second loss with Austria – France disappointing
Copenhagen/Paris Fourth game, second defeat for Ralf Rangnick and the Austrian national team. In Copenhagen, the team around Bayern’s Marcel Sabitzer game lost 2-0 to Denmark. France also lost their encounter in the Nations League. In the end it was 0:1 against Croatia.
Ralf Rangnick suffered his second defeat in his fourth game as Austria’s national soccer coach. The Austrians lost 0:2 (0:2) against strong Danes on Monday evening. Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind (21st minute) and Andreas Skov Olsen (37th) scored the goals in Copenhagen. After the third win, Denmark continues to lead the Nations League Group 1.
Meanwhile, football world champion France no longer has a chance of successfully defending its title in the Nations League. In Group A1, the team coached by Didier Deschamps can no longer achieve the group victory necessary for participation in the finals after the 0:1 (0:1) home defeat in the renewed edition of the World Cup final against Croatia as they are still bottom of the table without a win.
France’s fans are waiting in vain for their Equipe tricolore to react defiantly after the first half of the preliminary round without a win. After just five minutes, Croatia’s midfield star Luka Modric took the lead and slowed down the home side with Christopher Nkunku from DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig in their first élan. After the break, Deschamps also sent on Benjamin Pavard and Kingsley Coman from German champions Bayern Munich as well as star striker Antoine Griezmann, but the world champions’ efforts to avoid the second defeat were unsuccessful until the final whistle.
Austria, meanwhile, failed to confirm their previous 1-1 win against France after missing out on revenge for their 2-1 home defeat in the first leg in Copenhagen. Rangnick’s team, with Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer and Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic in the starting line-up, rarely posed a goal threat and, under the direction of their new coach, once again proved to be unstable.
