According to the Zurich Opera House, more than 20,000 people followed two ballet and opera performances on a big screen and on the Internet. Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” was shown on Friday and Christian Spuck’s “Sleeping Beauty” on Saturday.
According to the announcement, around 12,000 people will visit the Sechseläutenplatz on Saturday in the best summer weather to experience the live broadcast from inside the opera house outside for free.
Another 5,500 viewers followed the performance as expected online in a live stream.
Around 3,000 guests had already gathered for the screening on Friday evening. A recording of the Wagner piece in a production by artistic director Andreas Homoki from 2013 was shown. The German entertainer Harald Schmidt introduced the work on the Sechseläutenplatz.
The event series “Opera and Ballet for All” took place for the eighth time. Next year it is scheduled for June 17th. Gaetano Donizetti’s opera classic “Don Pasquale” will then be shown in a production by the German director Christof Loy.
