ZZ Leiden basketball is champion of the Netherlands and Belgium

What was not done against Heroes Den Bosch two weeks ago, ZZ Leiden Basketball did on Saturday evening in a sold-out Vijf Meihal. Donar Groningen was defeated with minimal differences, past Leiden had constantly looked at the first half and at one point rose to 16 points.
The Leiden team continued to face a deficit in the third quarter, but the gap gradually narrowed. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the chances turned and Leiden managed to turn the game to their advantage. But it remained blood-curdling until the last minute. Final score: 71-70. By winning the first BNXT League, Leiden can call itself champion of the Netherlands and Belgium.

On Sunday afternoon, the club and fans say goodbye to the players in the Vijf Meihal. In particular Worthy de Jong who will stop with 5×5 basketball and focus on the Olympic Games with 3×3 basketball. De Jong played twelve years in Leiden, minus one year when he took a break to play in France. He was named Most Valuable Player on Saturday after winning the championship.
