Zurich wants to use noise cameras – as a test
The municipal council of the city of Zurich has submitted a postulate to the Greens to try to hunt down loud autoposers.

The Zurich city council should protect the population from excessive engine noise and also use and test so-called noise cameras. The municipal council passed a corresponding postulate by the Greens with 80 yes to 32 no votes.
Noise cameras are not yet regulated in Switzerland – but the cities of Geneva and Lausanne, among others, are already using such noise measuring devices combined with a camera on a trial basis, as Urs Riklin (Greens) noted on Wednesday evening. The Zurich city police should now also be given the opportunity to carry out a pilot test.

Because while the city is investing a lot in traffic calming, some motorists willfully create noise by preparing engines, exhaust pipes, exhaust flaps or sound machines, driving at high speed or accelerating extremely, according to the postulate.
The engine noise and the banging noises that can be heard from afar are disturbing and would rob many residents of their sleep. Determining the polluters, however, is complex and the requirements so that they can be reported are high. A test should show whether noise flashers could help here.
FDP and SVP against it
The postulate met with broad approval in the municipal council: Noise disturbs, wakes up, makes you sick, said Roland Hohmann (Greens). The city of Zurich wants and needs to be quieter, added Patrick Hässig (GLP). Excessive noise that disturbs the population is not tolerable.
Only FDP and SVP speak out against the advance and against noise flashers. Among other things, the liberals raised constitutional concerns. Noise cameras could not be used at all – it still needs the police, who have to control manipulated vehicles. (SDA)
