Severe weather warning for Austria from the west
In the Burgenland districts of Güssing and Oberwart, around twelve weirs were deployed, they had to pump out basements and clear traffic routes. The “Starnacht am Neusiedler See” in Mörbisch also had to be interrupted for half an hour, but was normal after the downpour, the organizers reported.
In Lower Austria, the fire brigades also had to move out to numerous cases, reported the spokesman for the state fire brigade command Franz Resperger. The city of Gmünd, for example, was particularly affected, where there were floods or fallen trees blocked the streets.
On Sunday, the heaviest weather in Upper Austria is expected between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. from the Innviertel to Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen. The heaviest downpours are expected to fall in the Innviertel, storms with peak speeds of 80 km/h and above are likely in all parts of the country, according to the ZAMG in the warning. There can also be hail.
The central institute advised the risk of lightning as well as thunderstorm and storm warnings at lakes and to expect rapid developments and changes in the thunderstorm path. Movable objects outdoors such as party tents, trampolines and garden furniture should be secured, windows, doors and gates should be closed. The first thing to do with sports aircraft is to land, and then to go to the ports quickly with boats. Temporary power outages may occur.
