WHO, and the small cooperation agreements between San Marino
With two new plenary sections, it dedicates to the promotion of health and sustainable tourism and to the examination of the first regional health strategy for the small countries of Europe – entitled “Roadmap towards better health in the small countries of the WHO European region, 2022- 2025 “- the 8th High Level Meeting moved by the WHO Europe section ended yesterday.
In particular, the final document on which the new roadmap on health cooperation policies for the 11 countries participating in the Small Countries Initiative will be debated – Andorra, Cyprus, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino And Slovenia – also providing valuable tools for greater technical and resource collaboration.
At the end of the work, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Security Roberto Ciavatta together with the Director of the WHO Europe Region, Hans P. Kluge, took the opportunity to sign and renew the Technical Cooperation Agreement that binds the Republic of San Marino to the group of small European states that are members of the World Health Organization. The Small State Network was first established in 2013 at an informal meeting held during the 63rd session of the WHO Europe Regional Committee in Çeşme Izmir, Turkey. Since then, the table linked to cooperation and sharing of health policies between small-sized countries has grown, with the Republic of the Titan playing the role of co-leader since its inception. The agreement signed this morning will have a duration of 5 years, starting from 1 July 2022.
“The partnership – explains the Secretariat for Health in a note – implies taking common actions in organizing members of international events involving the 11 countries on health issues, directly to the San Marino countries through the technical assistance of the European Office of the WHO in Venice and involve the Republic in the various activities carried out within the WHO Regional Office for Europe “.
“The signing of the agreement was preceded on Thursday by a working lunch requested by the Republic of San Marino through a formal letter sent to the Ministers and delegates of the 11 countries, in which the opportunity to strengthen the initiative was discussed also through an overall Memorandum of Understanding that creates channels of continuous dialogue between the Ministers of Health of the member countries, with a view to creating paths of mutual aid and support in the complex challenges that the emergencies faced have highlighted.
The members agreed with San Marino on the opportunity to strengthen the SCI (Small Countries Initiative), laying the foundations for the drafting, in the additional weeks in the agreement countries, of a document that has just been signed ”concludes the Secretariat.
