United Islands of Europe will present 54 artists from nine countries in Prague
The main stars will include Irish musicians from the band Thumper and the duo Tebi Rex, rapper Albi X from Germany, representatives of the current Czech R&B Annet X and 7 times3 live band and Polish singer Ofelia. The festival includes the non-musical program Islands of Inspiration, which, like concerts, takes place on Střelecký Island and its surroundings. Admission is free. Filip Stowasser informed ČTK about this on behalf of the organizers.
“Visitors can look forward to concerts by young artists as well as an extensive non-musical program Islands of Inspiration, which will offer workshops, screenings, exhibitions and debates. The entire program takes place on Střelecký Island, Kampa, Janáček Embankment, Children’s Island, Portheimka Park and the Terrace of the Smíchov Shopping Center, “said festival manager Kamila Buráňová.
Visitors to the festival can also look forward to the Club Night on June 10, which the festival organizes in cooperation with the Department of Arts Management at the University of Economics in Prague. The program at the Fam Club and Chapeau Rouge will dramaturgically focus on guitar performances from indie through garage-noise to nu-core or alternative metal. The Scout Institute in Rybárna will offer its premises to electronic music DJs.
The individual scenes of the United Islands of Europe offer various forms of contemporary pop, rock, post-punk, jazz and alternative. The predominant musical style will be rap.
“Guitars have ceased to be dominant in music. The new pop is rap. When we were choosing musical discoveries, we couldn’t miss him. The entire United Islands of Europe festival is so strongly attuned to genres and forms that represent the musical present, not the past, ”said the festival’s playwrights from the Heartnoize collective. On the contrary, according to them, the Eastern European music scene is characterized by direct inspiration from Western pop in the 1980s. This scene on the United Islands will be represented by the Polish star Ofelia or the Lithuanian trio Dlina Volny.
The United Islands International Music Festival has been held in Prague since 2004. Every year it presents new musical discoveries. In addition, it offers a non-music program that, in addition to entertainment, reflects current social issues. The two-day festival returned from the Karlín to the islands last year after five years. Program with the subtitle Německé vydání sv. 2 offered, for example, the German band Shelter Boy, the electronic duo Atna, the electronic project Agregat and the post-punk group Drens. The Czech scene was represented by singers Amelie Siba, Anabelle and Bára Zmeková.
