The Science Fair begins in Prague. It will show chip production, experiments and other interesting things
The largest science and popularization event in the Czech Republic begins today at the PVA Expo in Prague’s Letňany and will last until Saturday, June 4. People will also see some scientific projects that represented the Czechia at the EXPO 2020 world exhibition in Dubai. Those interested can also go through web book for festival tours in the region. Admission to the fair is free. The event is organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (AS CR).
The fair offers over 100 exhibitions and thematic stands. Visitors who are interested in the humanities will take a look at the Tibetan ceremonial tent, where they are acquainted with examples of various oriental scriptures. There will also be an educational simulation of Czech history, and the children will then play in a giant borane molecule, where they will assemble molecules from candies and make their own slime under the guidance of experts from the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the ASCR.
With the program full of spectacular chemical and physical experiments, including the sugar rainbow, the yeast volcano, the Fortress of Knowledge of Palacký University in Olomouc will take part. Experts from the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will also have fun with the light-powered robotic zoo, which will also give people a view of cosmic radiation using a fog chamber. Experts from the Institute of Photonics and Electronics will present, among other things, the preparation of a sensor chip made of an unusual material – chocolate.
There will also be several interesting lectures. A discussion on how people from the Czech Republic are helping Russia-invaded Ukraine will start today at 1 p.m. Adriana Černá from the NGO People in Need, sociologist and political geographer Tomáš Kostelecký and space engineer Jan Lukačevič will take part in the debate. From 16:00, physicist Jan Kaufman will show examples of bad or unrealistic use of physics in action films, and an hour later in Letňany, experts in aviation technology will talk about the production of a Czech fighter jet. Among other things, a discussion on targeted crop genetic modification is planned for Friday.
In Letňany, there will also be exhibits exhibited by the Academy of Sciences at the World Expo in Dubai – a floating gold coin, a model ship that disposes of plastic waste from the sea, as well as several models for smart energy recovery and use.
The science fair was held for the first time in 2015. The Academy of Sciences cooperates with universities, libraries and other organizations.
