in Monaco, the French are already voting
Did you know that the ballot for the legislative elections has already started very close to home, in Monaco? This is the case for all French people living abroad. We explain to you how it works.
For the 12 candidates of the 5th constituency of French people living abroad, which includes Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Monaco, the campaign for the 1st round is soon over.
The first stage, internet voting, ended on Wednesday 1 June. For 5 days, it was indeed possible to vote by email.
Still he had to be registered on the consular electoral list before May 10, to have communicated his telephone number and his email and … to avoid a few bugs. As revealed by our colleagues from FranceInfohundreds of voters were unable to receive their official confirmation codes, the messages being considered “junk mail” by some providers.
Fortunately, they still have a second option: slip a ballot into a ballot box, a very real one, and this from Sunday, a week earlier than for the French in mainland France. In Monaco, the two polling stations will be located at the Saint-Charles school. On its twitter account, the French Embassy in Monaco gave a thread of practical explanations:
A third option remains possible for these voters from abroad: postal voting. But again, you had to do it early, by registering before March 31, 2022.
Another originality of this scrutineer: the first round takes place a week earlier, but not the second round, which will take place on June 19, as everywhere in France. Here again, internet voting will be possible upstream, from Friday June 10 noon to Wednesday June 15 noon.
During the previous legislative elections, the voters of this constituency had massively elected a Macronist deputy, Samantha Cazebonne, but they had especially massively abstained: only 15% of the voters had voted. He even had to vote again, a year later, after the cancellation of the control by the Constitutional Council. And it was finally his deputy, Stéphane Vojetta, who ensured the end of the mandate after the election of Samantha Cazebonne as senator last year. He presents himself to his own estate.
This time, the return of Manuels Valls to French political life is at stake. After having tried his luck in Spain, the former Prime Minister of François Hollande was invested by “Together”, the movement of the presidential majority. On the move this week on the Rock, he is therefore supported by Christian Estrosi, the president of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, also rallied to Emmanuel Macron.
Forgotten the bitter exchanges between the two men the day after the attack of July 14, 2016 in Nice.
In this election, Manuel Valls will face 11 other candidates:
- Claire Béhar (DIV)
- Laurent Goater (LR)
- Marc Ridelle (DSV)
- Maria Isabel de Sousa Teixeira (DVG)
- Robin Fontaine (DIV)
- Serge Bies (RN)
- Garbine Eraso (REG)
- Renaud Le Berre (ECO)
- Jose Sanchez Perez (ECO)
- Nicolas Chamoux (REC)
- Stéphane Vojetta (DVC)
