Toulouse: the driver travels more than 3 km with a scooter stuck under the van and receives 4 years in prison
The man who drove a distance of 3km with a scooter stuck under the bumper was tried before the Toulouse Criminal Court on Tuesday.
The scene is surreal this Thursday evening, May 5. From Place Saint-Cyprien to the alleys of Barcelona, a man tries to outrun the police with his van and he takes all the risks. The driver travels more than 3 km with a scooter stuck under his front bumper. Almost a month after the events, this 45-year-old individual was tried on Tuesday May 31 by the Toulouse Criminal Court.
It all started with a simple check by police officers, at the level of the Allées Charles-de-Fitte. “I had drunk a lot of alcohol and I was driving without a driver’s license. I didn’t want to be arrested,” he explains from the defendants’ box.
After refusing to comply, this homeless man hit a motorcyclist. Again, he did not take his foot off the accelerator. Worse, he kept rolling with the two-wheelers stuck under his bumper. “Panic has taken over. And with alcohol and adrenaline, it’s hard to have clear ideas”, still mumbles the client of Me Sarah Nabet-Claverie.
Armed with a pruner
This forties will finally be arrested near the entrance to the ring road, in the Minimes sector. According to the lawyer, the arrest of the defendant was very violent, “disproportionate”. But the prosecution recalls that the respondent was armed with pruning shears. Then he rebelled and refused to be handcuffed.
The prosecutor is asking for 5 years in prison. After an electric argument, the driver finally receives four years in prison.
