A summer at the castle – A look back at … – L’Institut
In the heart of the Camargue, the majestic departmental domain of the Château d’Avignon opens its doors to the public from April 20 to October 2. Visits to the castle, sound and light shows, exhibitions, pop-up restaurant, archaeological workshops, this green setting with its exceptional architecture offers you all summer a family, cultural and festive program not to be missed under any circumstances!
Free access to the domain from Wednesday to Sunday
From Wednesday to Sunday, the domain is free to access. Come and watch the screening of documentary films in the Lavoir and discover digital works in the water tower and in the park.

European Archeology Days
Saturday June 18 from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In partnership with Inrap (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research), which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, come and explore the archaeological gems of our heritage. During the “European Archeology Days”, professionals await you throughout a festive and friendly weekend to unravel the mysteries of the most beautiful discoveries made on our territory.

The young talents of lyrical art in concert
July 1 – 7:00 p.m.
The Department organizes a free tour each year in partnership with the Academy of the Festival International d’Art lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence. This summer it will pass through the Château d’Avignon where you will discover the talent of some of the most promising young singers and lyrical instrumentalists. An event not to be missed!
Music at the castle
Saturday June 25 – 7:00 p.m.
Great concert in the heart of nature to celebrate music at the Château d’Avignon! A show for all audiences with artists Chico & the Gypsies and flamenco guitarist and composer Juan Carmona.

From light to the castle
July 14th
To celebrate the national holiday, a monumental sound and light show will be projected on the facade of the Château. Come and watch the lighting of the park and its buildings for a magical and surprising night stroll! A big banquet is organized in the park.
Open-air cinema under the stars
July 29 and August 25 at dusk
The Ciné Plein Air Marseille festival, organized by “Les Ecrans du Sud”, broadcasts cinema throughout the territory during free screenings open to all with a varied program. This year, as part of the Provençal Capitals of Culture, sessions will be offered under the stars in the park of the Château d’Avignon.
A free piano concert in the heart of the park
August 7 – 6:30 p.m.
Each year, the Department accompanies the International Piano Festival of La Roque d’Anthéron and its “Sur les routes de Provence” tour. In this context, the Ensembles in Residence will offer this year a free concert in the park of the castle to make you discover chamber music in a different light.
European Heritage Days
Visits to “La Maison de la Harpiste: a 2,000-year-old puzzle”
Saturday September 17 and Sunday September 18
Discovered during excavation campaigns on the Verrerie site, the exceptional paintings
murals of the House of the Harpist transport us to the residence of a notable of Arelate from the middle of the 1st century BC. Archaeologists, restorers and mediators present their study and reassembly workshops for these painted coatings; thousands of fragments to put together to piece together a giant 2,000-year-old puzzle.

A famous ballet on the big screen
Saturday September 17 – reception from 6 p.m. – broadcast: 8 p.m.
As part of the “Summer Opera” operation in partnership with the Paris National Opera, the Department invites you to discover or rediscover the ballet “Le Parc” on a giant screen! In this piece, the famous choreographer Angelin Preljocaj finds a subtle balance between the classical breath carried by Mozart’s music and the modernity of his choreographic language. Even today, this timeless work questions the development of feelings and explores the codes of love.
Closing – Gastronomy Festival
September 24 and 25
The Department invites you to celebrate the end of the summer season and the closure of the estate during a great family and friendly event. On the program of cultural activities on the theme of the Camargue, the discovery of local artisans, gastronomic surprises proposed by the young chefs in the ephemeral restaurant and artistic performances for young and old.
