Electric scooters in the sights of Nice and Monaco
The Monegasque government has just published the report on accidents in 2021. Two-wheelers, including electric scooters, remain mainly involved. Various solutions are studied.
Since 2007, motorized two-wheeler bodily accidents have dropped drastically, going from 174 to 83 occurrences. However, these engines remain involved in three quarters of collisions.
In question, in particular, a lack of control of the vehicle related to alcohol, inattention, or speed.
This concerns bicycles, motorcycles, scooters but also electric scooters. Faced with the development of the latter, the Principality has tightened the regulations.
Since January 2022, Monaco has made helmets compulsory for all users of these electrified vehicles, even minors. Traffic is allowed on the roadway, bus lanes and cycle paths. Sidewalks remain prohibited.
In the cards, the obligation to participate in awareness-raising steps for offenders. In reflection, the measure could materialize within a few months.
In Nice too, the question of stricter regulations arises. Faced with numerous breaches of the highway code, the town hall wants to act.
At the top of the desired projects, the registration of scooters claimed from the State, but also a restriction of the areas of movement.

The deputy mayor in charge of traffic is also pleading for an age limit of use of 16 years minimum.
