France Bleu Occitanie is organizing in the coming days three debates on the constituencies of Haute-Garonne and Toulouse. This Tuesday, May 31 between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., we are in the third district, between Balma and downtown Toulouse. Thursday we will be in the first between Blagnac and Toulouse, and next Tuesday, to complete our pre-first round discussions, we will be live from the fourth, between Mirail and Bonhoure. Three debates therefore, which directly concern the pink city and its surroundings, and which also aim to enlighten voters on their constituencies… Because it is anything but easy to find your way around…
A redistricting which complicated an already complex reading
If you live in the Toulouse conurbation and you cannot find your way around, namely in which constituency you will vote on June 12 and 19it’s normal… After a first redistricting in 1986, the electoral map of Haute-Garonne was revised in 2010, the famous Marleix reform named after the minister responsible for deciding. With the increase in population, it was necessary to add constituencies in the department, and distribute them with a ceiling of one deputy for a maximum of 127,000 inhabitants.
Some have spoken of butchering. Before there were 8 constituencies in Haute-Garonne and not 10, and they corresponded – a little more – to living areas. The addition of two deputies led to a big bang. Today, 9 of the 10 districts of the department incorporate at least part of the urban area of Toulouse. Only the Comminges, the 8th, remains independent.

Place du Capitole and Place Wilson between two constituencies
The new third constituency, between Balma and the Côte Pavée, includes for example a very small part of the city center, the Carmes and the Buscat. It was created from scratch on the occasion of this redistricting and is classified on the right.
Toulouse city center is itself divided into three districts. There is therefore this famous third, the first which leaves Blagnac to arrive in Matabiau…and…the fourth which holds the prize for the most beautiful electoral knitting tool: it succeeds from Mirail to go to Terre Cabade cemetery, encompassing Place du Capitole and again throughout the square. On the north side of McDonald’s, we vote in the first. In the same way, Place Wilson is cut in two.
