A fire broke out in the Chalets district of Toulouse on the night of Sunday May 29, at 42 rue Claire-Pauilhac.
Eric, a resident of rue de Coulmiers, perpendicular to the site of the disaster, gave the alert after being awakened around 5 a.m. by the sound of a loud explosion and seeing large flames coming from the building.
Two cars were parked at the foot of this listed building. For some unknown reason, one of the two caught fire. Fire that spread by the second. The very high temperatures burned the building’s city gas connection, which created a flame almost 8 meters high, explained a GRDF agent present at the scene this morning. Across the street, the heat from the flames partially melted a bicycle.
Gas cut, restored scheduled for early afternoon
Firefighters came to grips with the blaze in the morning. In order to stop the fire, the gas network was cut by GRDF agents. It should be restored throughout the district at the beginning of the afternoon by the combined action of GRDF and its subcontractor Midi Travaux publics.
The ground and first floors were badly affected by the fire. Fortunately, no casualties are to be deplored. The building has four inhabitants, who will be relocated.
