Toulouse: Domitille creates objects from the leather of airplane seats
At the head of Atelier Meta, Domitille Roche-Michoudet produces eco-responsible travel items. Reportage.
At 33, Domitille Roche-Michoudet still has a traveling soul. A bit like Rimbaud and his soles of wind, she likes to discover other horizons. A young woman for whom philosophy also means something. For these two reasons, this Toulouse woman founded Atelier Meta two years ago, specializing in the manufacture of leather goods (luggage tag, passport cover, backpack, purse, etc.) from aircraft seat leather. A rather judicious idea in the city of aeronautics! “I’m keen on sewing and I like to create,” explains Domitille. I also wanted to do something local. On the coast, boat sails have a second life… In Toulouse, planes are the engine of the economy”.
For the moment, the JCB Aéro upholstery supplies leather to Domitille: “We are in contact with Airbus and Air France. It takes time “.
“In Greek, Meta means “to give life after” and in Argentinian, “goal”. Two meanings that inspire me”.
For its project, Domitille is in partnership with Agec (circular economy and anti-waste), which works to recycle waste. “To create my objects, I use pieces of leather that are unused, damaged or too small to become an airplane seat”. For the moment, the Atelier Meta, labeled Zero waste, is working well and continues to develop the commercial aspect. An online sales platform is available to customers before a shop in the city center. “In Greek, Meta means ‘to give life after’.
And in Argentinian, Meta means “goal”. Two meanings that make sense to me and that inspire me”.
