“Please help my brother, he is to be beheaded” – Austria
A young man from Afghanistan is threatened with death by the Taliban. His brother, who lives in Austria, wants to save him.
Baran F (name changed) can hardly sleep. The Afghan living in Vienna fears for the life of his brother Ali (name changed). The 25-year-old was responsible for national security in his home country. He took foreigners from Kabul airport to their embassies and vice versa. Ali has lived in mortal fear in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power a year ago.
“They went to his house, burned all his documents and his passport so that he cannot leave Afghanistan. One of them wounded my brother. They threatened to kill him and his wife if he didn’t defect to the Taliban.” , describes Baran F. in despair “Today”-Conversation.
“He is in mortal danger”
The Viennese by choice and his parents have been living in Austria for six years, and they have had a positive asylum decision since 2019. Now the family is trying to bring Ali F. over here too, to bring him to safety. “My brother’s life is in danger. The Taliban have already beheaded nine of his colleagues. He could be next,” reported Baran F., horrified. His brother, who has been tortured, managed to escape to Pakistan, where he now lives illegally. “If he is found, he has to go back to Afghanistan and he will die.”
Ali F. has already submitted an application for family reunification to the Austrian embassy in Pakistan, “but it was rejected by MA 35,” says his brother. on “Today”-Inquiry from the magistrate says: “Residence permits are not an urgent instrument to enable exit from crisis regions. There are the means of humanitarian visas and asylum – both fall within the federal permissibility, i.e. the BMI and the permanent BMEIA. “
Appeal to the President
Since the Afghan is already over 18 years old, reunification with his parents and brother in Austria via the ministry is not possible. Ali F. therefore also tried to apply for the red-white-red card as a key worker or in a shortage occupation. But the MA35 also rejected this request.
“Please help my brother, otherwise he will be beheaded,” pleads Baran F. Because neither the Ministry of the Interior nor the MA35 can save Ali, he is now staying on the intervention of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. “Please don’t let a proposal decide his life and bring him to safety!”
