Liverpool-Real Madrid: the town hall of Paris will “send the invoice” for the cleaning to the organizers
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – Relocated from Saint Petersburg to Paris after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 2022 Champions League final did not give a hard time only at the Stade de France stadiums in Saint-Denis.
To accommodate the approximately 40,000 supporters of the “Reds” who made the trip without tickets, the police headquarters had set up a vast “fan zone” between Place de la Nation and Porte de Vincennes in the east of the capital. Another was also dedicated to Spanish supporters in Saint-Denis.
And obviously, the English supporters did not only benefit from the giant screen… Many videos broadcast on social networks show an area covered with waste, mainly bottles and beer packs.
“I really like football. I like the great moments of popular sporting gatherings. But there… Thoughts and support for the cleanliness officers of the city of Paris who will be hard at work all night, ”writes Colombe Brossel, the cleanliness assistant of the town hall of Paris. “And yes, we will send the invoice to the organizers,” she added in a tweet relayed by Anne Hidalgo.
As you can see from the images filmed last night by Brut reporter Remy Buisine, the agents of the Paris cleanliness technical service were hard at work to clean up the area, in particular using a backhoe.
Scuffles, as well as police charges, also took place during the evening near the square, in particular in a bar evacuated by decision of the police. The prefecture indicated that a total of “68 people had been arrested as part of the excesses of the evening in Paris and Saint-Denis”. 39 people were taken into custody.
“The evacuation of the two distinct ‘fan zones’ took place without major incidents,” added the prefecture on Twitter, referring to these gatherings as a general “good physiognomy” of the evening.
238 people taken care of by the emergency services
The Paris fire brigade for its part evoked “a rather calm evening” in terms of care. In all, 238 people were taken care of by the various emergency services at one time of the day, for “near emergencies”, ranging from drunkenness or minor accidents, including poisoning from tear gas launched by the police, a spokesperson for the Paris fire department told AFP.
Parisians or political opponents have pointed to the lack of preparation upstream of the city or the absence of large trash cans made available for the evening. Others also pointed out that these supports could have put their waste in their bags on the way home…
