Lecture: ‘The state of the Catholic Netherlands’ in Nieuwegein
On Tuesday 21 June, Stijn Fens will give a lecture in the Emmaus Church on Merelplein in Nieuwegein. The reading lasts from 20.00 to 22.00, walk-in from 19.30. Admission is free, but you must register in advance via the e-mail address: [email protected].
Fens is a well-known journalist who works for Trouw, a writer and Vatican expert. He will give a lecture on ‘The state of the Catholic Netherlands: Is the end in sight or is there a glimmer of hope?’
Fens, together with Maaike van Houten, wrote a series of articles about the Roman Catholic Church in the Netherlands for Trouw. The image that emerges is multifaceted but also alarming and worrying. This series forms the basis of the lecture. Afterwards, he will talk to the audience about their experiences with faith and church.
“This topic deserves the full attention of those who care about our society inside or outside the Church. How should it continue after the long period, in which the market, own strength and happiness were the main focus. After Corona, the lack of humane attention and the war in Ukraine, it is time for a thorough reflection on our motivations’ says Fens.
