The national dance festival Prague will start the program in Brno today
Performers from Brazil, Portugal and Slovenia will perform at Freedom Square from 17:00 and 19:00 with a performance called Woods. From their bodies and standing on their heads, they will create tall trees and invite passers-by who will want to get involved. The performance aims to challenge the issues of climate change and life in today’s society in a creative and poetic way.
The Prague Dance Festival will then take place in June in 25 cities and towns across the country. The main program in Prague will begin on June 1 with a production by Flemish choreographer Ann Van den Broek, who performed at the festival six years ago and will be one of the three main female guests of this year’s show.
Ann Van den Broek arrives with Joy Enjoy Joy. It is a pulsating celebration of life that does not subside even in a time full of doubts and uncertainties. Even in the new work of the Flemish choreographer, her audience will recognize the original contemporary theatrical language combining lighting effects, video, movement and text. In the rhythm of electronic music and the energy of eight dancers, the joy of life seems inexhaustible. But Ann Van den Broek reminds in choreography that no party can last forever, and it also shows the other, painful and melancholic side of life.
Canadian dancer and choreographer Louise Lecavalier will also return to the festival after four years. The third main guest will be the French dancer and choreographer Maguy Marinová, who has also appeared at the Prague show before and who will end the festival in Prague.
This year, the Prague Dance Festival is trying to be as close to the audience as possible. Each year of the festival has a unique and strong visual identity, and this year it is the main motif To the touch of your senses. The connection of the senses also takes place between spectators and dancers. The purpose is to emphasize the still participatory projects, ie the involvement of the public in the festival’s performances themselves. The festival is open to all age groups, the program will be prepared for children, schools, families with children and seniors. Dance Prague Junior will offer performances by selected artists from France, Italy and the Czech Republic, which will be presented at schools and for the public. The festival will also include a presentation of the Dance to Schools project.
