Main drive in the military cemetery in Debrecen in honor of the Hungarian heroes
– The last Sunday of May has been the day of remembrance of the Hungarian heroes since 1917, when we head to the I. and II. In memory of the heroic dead, military and civilian victims of World War II, and in front of all those who shed their lives with or without weapons during the thousand years of the Hungarians, their lives were risked or sacrificed for Hungary, stressed , in the Debrecen Military Cemetery and Cemetery of Heroes.
Lieutenant Colonel István Varga stated that we remember the many known or unknown heroes who considered the commitment, loyalty and courage to their homeland important, and the freedom and independence of the Hungarian people even more important than their own lives. As he recalled, the soldiers in Debrecen also gather every year to commemorate their dead, two of whom are known up close. Their loss in 2011 is preserved on a plaque on the wall of the mausoleum.
“In recent years and today, it has been proven several times that the peace and security that everyone wants is fragile and can be lost quickly,” István Varga pointed out.
So peace and security are not by themselves, but a lot of people have to do for it. It is also the job of the Bocskai Brigade to pass this idea on to future generations. The message of Memorial Day is also that patriotism is a guarantee of our survival
The speaker underlined.
Loss of two thousand
Sándor Csákvári, the research leader of the “Forgotten Memory” War Grace Research Group, recalled their slogan at the event, the point of which is that they never leave anyone behind and, if necessary, go for it even 100 years later. The members of the research group carried out excavations in all settlements of today’s Hajdú-Bihar county and published the war heritage of the county. The exploratory work was initiated by private individuals and then all quickly developed into a national public affair. He also said he believes and believes that every country has a duty to account for its victims. In the spirit of this, several settlements are considered to be in the Great War or II. also in the exploration of their personal losses in World War II.
At the end of his speech, he handed over to the public collection the “Great War Personal Loss Data Repository of the City of Debrecen” prepared as a result of serious research work and a long time spent, which was taken over by Gergely Kovács, archivist of the Hajdú-Bihar County Archives of the National Archives. The database of heroic dead born in Debrecen, born locally or for other reasons, contains approximately two thousand persons and data series.
