“I hope they return as soon as possible.” Tardif – on the extension of the ban of Russia and Belarus
President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif commented on the information about the extension of the ban of Russia and Belarus.
“I hope Russia and Belarus will return as soon as possible, because this would be a good signal about the situation in the world,” Tardif was quoted by Ilta-Sanomat.
We remind you that earlier it became known that the national teams of Russia and Belarus do not participate in all tournaments under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 2023. The Ice Hockey World Championship – 2023, which was supposed to be held in St. Petersburg, was moved to Tampere (Finland) and Riga (Latvia).
The youth world championship, which was supposed to be hosted by Novosibirsk and Omsk, was also transferred from Russia. This tournament will be held in Canada.
Earlier it was reported that an additional idea of Russia and Belarus after the restoration in the first division of the World Championship was discussed at the IIHF congress. However, the IIHF president has hinted that these teams are returning straight to the top division.
