Cycling. In two editions, comment on the Galibier Challenge has already won
Every cyclist avoids climbing or has dreamed of climbing the legendary Col du Galibier, culminating at 2,642 m. A nice challenge to take up for those who will take part in the race. The organizers, headed by Florian Blanc and Sébastien Dzius of French Alpes Event and the active forces around them, have concocted a nice program again this year.
“The Galibier Challenge is the first high mountain cyclosportive on the French calendar and the only one offered to climb a pass still covered in snow”, insist the two organizers.
Who to succeed Boudsocq and Dupenloup?
Last year, 370 competitors (85 in the first race and 285 in the second) lined up at the start. For the main race, Antoine Boudsocq of Grenoble Métropole Cyclisme 38 won the sprint in 3h02’35. Belgian Tim Alleman finished 2e in 3h02’44 ahead of his compatriot Frédéric Glorieux (3h03’55).
Among the women, Justine Dupenloup from Faverges was on the top step of the podium in 4h12’13 ahead of Anne-Laure Fey of the Union Cycliste Vanoise 4h15′ and Aline Guglielmi of La Motte-Servolex (4h26’41).
Who will succeed them in 2022, knowing that more than 550 participants have already registered? Very clever who can say it, especially since the two menus offered are particularly generous.
As we do not change a winning formula, the two routes will be identical to 2021. The joint start will be given at 8:45 a.m. avenue de La République de Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne. The 110 km and 3,300 m D+ cyclosportive will take the riders to Orelle before descending to Saint-Martin-la-Porte then the Col de Beau Plan (1,420 m), descent to Saint-Michel and direction Saint -Martin-d’Arc, the Col du Télégraphe (1,566 m), Valloire and the climb to the Galibier. The long timed climb of 35 terminals for 2,100 m D+ will link the Télégraphe and the Galibier.
This is a nice challenge for cycling fans in the heart of a postcard setting.
