Canucks Oliver Ekman-Larsson breaks his foot at the World Cup

Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s low season will not be exactly as he had planned.

The veteran defender has suffered a fracture in his foot when he played for Sweden at the IIHR WC in hockey in Finland.
Ekman-Larsson blocked a shot during a match on May 15 against the Czech Republic and managed to qualify for the next two matches. But he left a match against the United States on May 21 early.
Swedish coach Johan Garpenlöv said after the US match that Ekman-Larsson had injured his foot and blocked the shot on May 15 and could not play through it anymore.
He then missed matches against Latvia and Norway before returning to the line-up in the quarterfinals against Canada. The Canadians beat Sweden.
The Canucks announced last Saturday that Ekman-Larsson, who was Sweden’s captain at the tournament, had suffered a fracture in his foot and would be gone for four to six weeks.
