“Tourist offerings for Florence? No, there is already a tourist tax”
A voluntary donation in favor of the city of Florence. The idea launched by the mayor Dario Nardella in the wake of the Municipality of Venice to harmonize the flow of tourists, does not convince everyone. Unlike the lagoon city, which has decided to limit entrances through a computer counting system, in Florence tourists will be invited to donate, if they want, for the maintenance of what is considered by all to be an open-air city-monument.
Emanuele Dal Carlo, a Venetian committed to sustainable tourism and president of Fairbnb.coop, is against it. “The idea of asking tourism to participate in the maintenance of the city and directly in the sustainability of tourism with targeted interventions is generally positive, says Dal Carlo-. This is the theme behind Fairbnb which deals with sustainability in tourism. Asking for an additional donation over the tourist tax does not convince me. First of all, administrations should collaborate with platforms, from the largest to the smallest. The problem could be solved if the tourist tax were a purpose tax and dedicated to making tourism a sustainable activity for the city. This would be the first thing to do, without asking the tourists for more money. There is already a tax. We live in cities, Venice and Florence, perceived as expensive and predatory. This also depends a lot on the narrative that accompanies them and impromptu initiatives do not scratch ancient problems. We must insist on the theme of regenerative tourism, create jobs and generate resources to make the lives of citizens more comfortable than the inconveniences of tourism with a long-term and reasoned project ”to conclude.
