FLORENCE

the recycling of paper and cardboard with 3 thousand euros up for grabs

Sugar Mizzy May 27, 2022

The goal is to raise awareness of the value of paper and cardboard recycling

Florence hosts for the first time “Carta al Tesoro”, a team competition designed by Comieco for inform and raise awareness of the value of the paper and cardboard recycling cycle and the importance of separate collection. The initiative is organized with the Municipality of Florence and ALIA Servizi Ambientali SpA.

Saturday 28 May 2022 the teams participating in the competition will meet in the green area of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theater, starting at 9 am, where the Carta al Tesoro space will be set up, with original cardboard furnishings, the reception area, the of the final challenge “Riciclatutto” and the workshop with activities and games for girls and boys. The departure of the game is fixed at 10.30; the race course develops entirely in Parco delle Cascine, with five checkpoints marked on the “map” given to the participants. Come on we read about the regulation, Registration is free (by May 27) and there are prizes worth a total of 3,000 euros in shopping vouchers.

The Tuscan capital hosts the third stage of the 2022 edition of the Comieco initiative, after the event of last April 9 in Naples and last Saturday a Teramo. A choice that rewards a city and a territory that are constantly at the national top in the collection and recycling of paper and cardboard.

“An event that arrives in Florence in the year in which the new waste plan has recorded record data for separate collection – said the Environment Councilor Cecilia Del Re – reaching 80% in the areas reached by the new system door-to-door collection. An opportunity to inform and sensitize citizens on the value of the last paper recycling: as Florentines this year we started recycling about 30 thousand tons of paper and cardboard, which in this way give new life and replace virgin materials. The challenge is to further incentivize and strengthen the commitment to correct waste separation, to protect our environment and our city “.

The participants of Carta al Tesoro, after the start from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theater, will follow a path through some of the most evocative places in the park overlooking the Arno, passing tests and quizzes at the five “checkpoints” manned by the Carta al Tesoro staff, to be among the teams that will compete for victory in the final game, the “Riciclatutto”: spending for the first three prize rankings for 3000 euros in shopping vouchers.

“Treasure paper – said the deputy director of Comieco, Roberto Di Molfetta – is one of the communication tools that Comieco makes available to the affiliated companies with the aim of consolidating and further developing the separate collection and recycling of qualitative paper and cardboard. As part of the agreement with ReAL, in 2021 the Consortium guaranteed the recycling of over 13,000 tons of cellulosic packaging and about 7,000 tons of other paper collected by Alia from families and other commercial and artisanal users in Florence. Comieco has also paid economic fees of approximately 2.4 million euros for the collection and processing service “.

“While Tuscany according to the latest Comieco report slows down in the collection and management of the cellulosic fraction, the area managed by Alia and the Municipality of Florence confirm their commitment – said the President of Alia Servizi Ambientali, Nicola Ciolini -. In fact, between 2020 and last year, the collection of paper and cardboard in Florence grew by 26,482t. to over 29,744.00t. (of which 24.484t. of paper and 2.468t. of cellulose packaging), thanks to the precious daily collaboration of citizens and their extraordinary response to the transformation of the collection system that we are implementing alongside the municipal administration. In order to consolidate this virtuous process, involvement and communication actions are fundamental, such as the Treasury Charter, which renew the centrality of the daily gesture of citizens in the path of maximum valorisation of the waste produced every day, which thanks to our supply chain and the work of industries paper making it possible to transform the material into new products “.
