From today Covid hospitalizations suspended, from June 5 stop to activities
from Fabrizio Geremia
The Asl Na 1 Loreto Mare hospital closes until 26 June. The provision signed by Ciro Verdeolivathe general manager of the local health company, and by Michele Ciarfera, that the administrative director of the facility. As of today, therefore, I am all hospitalizations of Covid patients suspendedand from 5 June all clinical-assistance activities will cease. Then, the sanitation operations and the necessary work will start – reads the adjustment – for the re-functioning aimed at reactivating the clinical-assistance activities. It should end, according to the time schedule contained in the document, which sanctions the closure of the hospital, by June 19. The Loreto Mare will reopen on June 26, but it is still unclear with which departments and with the guarantee of which services. The offer of clinical activities and relative beds – in fact, it can be learned by scrolling through the document signed by Verdoliva and Ciarfera – will be subject to subsequent provision.
It also remains to be understood what to do, in the weeks of closure, the staff of Loreto Mare. What tasks, in essence, will be assigned by ASL Napoli 1 to doctors and nurses We will find a way to commit them, guarantees the general manager of the Verdoliva health company. One possibility, but we are in the field of hypotheses, because there are no communications on the part of the ASL, which a part of the health workers can be temporarily assigned to other hospitals in the area, currently suffering from organic absorption. As, moreover, the story of San Giovanni Bosco clearly demonstrates, where the intentions of the local health company to reactivate the emergency room after the suspension of hospitalizations of Covid patients, which closed for some time, have so far been broken due to the lack of doctors to be used in that sector.
But let’s go back to the closing of the Loreto Mare. The hospital overlooking Via Marina had long been dedicated exclusively to Covid patients. It has 50 beds in the Medicine area and 8 Intensive Care beds. In recent weeks, however, coinciding with the slowdown in infections and, above all, hospitalizations (for example, in the Cardarelli Emergency Department there is no longer a single positive entry for days) of people affected by Coronavirus, more and more beds they had remained unused in the hospital in via Marina. In the period 15-24 May, in particular, there was an average occupation of half of the beds available in Medicine and 1.6 out of the eight that Loreto Mare foresees in Intensive Care. Hence the choice of ASL Na 1, which has not yet planned the future of the hospital after the reopening at the end of June. The residual Covid patients who are currently hospitalized in the via Marina hospital, if they are still positive as of June 5, when all assistance activities will cease, could be distributed to the other hospitals, which have Covid departments themselves available for beds. Primarily the Cotugno, the hospital that lives in infectious diseases.
