“It is as difficult for Portugal to recover Olivença as Ukraine to recover Crimea”
THE former PCP deputy, António Filipe, commented, this Friday, on ‘Expresso da Meia Noite’, on SIC Notícias, the war in Ukraine, where he defended that “there has to be a negotiation, there is no alternative to that” and explains that “in a situation the later the worse”.
“It is as difficult for Portugal to recover Olivença from the Spaniards as it is for Ukraine to recover Crimea”stressed the politician, causing that hypothesis “is not on the table”, since “there is no possibility, from a military point of view, for Ukraine to recover Crimea”.
For António Filipe, “what is happening in Donbass is an enlargement of the Russian sphere of influence of Ukraine, making a connection with the Donbass territories and the Republic of Lugansk and Donetsk”.
In his view, “the fall of Mariupol is significant of Russia’s military superiority, which was evident.” The former deputy stressed that “From the moment it failed to avoid this war, no one would believe that a military victory for Ukraine was possible, unless one thought that Russia’s objective was to conquer Kyiv”adding that “any Russian person with the slightest bit would know from the start that this trial was an unrealistic goal”.
At a time when Moscow was mobilizing more troops for the Donbass, António Filipe argued that “if the European Union continues with the speech of trying to decide Zelensky, that it is possible to win Russia militarily and win this war militarily, We are creating illusions and many Ukrainians, unfortunately, to death“.
