Formula 1 | Aston Martin F1: Vettel has pace at a ‘different’ Monaco
Sebastian Vettel had an interesting day in Monaco. The Aston Martin F1 driver showed a good pace and thinks he can improve further tomorrow. His Friday was marked by a scare at the Piscine (see below) which he managed to correct before the accident.
“Although I have raced here many times, this circuit is very different with these new cars” note the four-time world champion. “The main difference is that the tires are much bigger and it’s harder to see the track around you.
“The cars are also much stiffer and going through the tunnel is not as easy as before. I was lucky to save the car during a mistake in the pool, although my heart rate went accelerated !”
“We tried some new things today so we have to see what worked well and learn to fine tune the settings more. Tomorrow the key will be to make sure we have a clean lap in qualifying, especially during Q1. when the track is loaded.”
Ride fears the heat for the race
His teammate, Lance Stroll, did not note an experience as different from Vettel, and he enjoyed driving in the streets of the Principality: “It’s great to be back in Monaco. Regardless of the car regulations, it’s still the same circuit with the same corners and the same challenges.”
“Today was a good opportunity to continue to understand the latest developments of the car and build on our experience in Barcelona. The tires overheated a bit with the heat.
“So dealing with degradation will be a key part of Sunday’s race. As always, there are still a few things to work on, but I’m confident we’ll make some progress ahead of qualifying.”
