Maximilian Wöber has extended his contract with Red Bull Salzburg, which expires in 2024, by another year. This was announced by the Austrian double winner on Friday. Most recently, the central defender had been repeatedly associated with a change, including VfL Wolfsburg’s interest in the 24-year-old.
At least for the time being, Wöber, who has also played for Rapid, Ajax Amsterdam and FC Sevilla in his career, will remain in Salzburg. “I’ve been to a few big clubs abroad, so I know better what I’ve got here at FC Red Bull Salzburg. I’ve established a good standing and can play football successfully at a very high level under excellent conditions,” explained Wöber in one Broadcast.
Freund praises “Leader” Wöber
After the departures of Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund) and Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United), Salzburg was able to avoid the departure of another key player. “Max isn’t just a strong defender exactly as we imagine him to be. He is also a real leader in the team who likes to take on responsibility, which is an important factor, especially with our young team.” Therefore, one is “all the happier” to have reached an agreement with him early on.
Wöber has appeared in 104 competitive games for Salzburg and scored three goals in these. As he recently emphasized in the kicker interview, he would like to continue to recommend himself for the Austrian national team with good performances. In his first squad, neo-team boss Ralf Rangnick is already relying on the services of the 24-year-old.
