Toulouse: for lack of cigarettes, he hits a policeman in the jails of the courthouse
At the end of March, an inmate was carried away in the jails of the Toulouse courthouse. A deputy policeman was threatened and beaten.
“You want respect but, in reality, you don’t respect anything”, annoys the president of the immediate comparison hearing of the Toulouse criminal court. In the box, Sultani, 30, moves on himself, not convinced. On Tuesday March 22, annoyed, he waited in the basement of the Toulouse courthouse. “I wanted a cigarette,” he finally let go. “We don’t give it to you and you hit,” worries the president.
The scene, recorded by geol surveillance cameras, leaves little room for interpretation. “You come out of your cell calmly and three seconds later, you turn around and hit yourself,” summarizes Me Robin Sénié-Delon, who represents the young policeman. “And contrary to what you say, there has never been of provocation. Whatever the reason, you cannot headbutt and threaten this policeman with death”, develop the lawyer who claims 700 € in damages and 400 € for costs.
The prosecutor shares the analysis. “Sir, you are under investigation and, because nothing suits you, you have appointed! This policeman is certainly not your servant”, reproaches the representative of the public prosecutor’s office. He requires 6 months in prison. In the box, the defendant lowers his head.
“He has no excuse and, today, he recognizes it”, answers Me Morgane Conte. “He turned out to be in a delicate personal situation. Charged, imprisoned, his father has just died. He could not attend his funeral. This does not excuse anything but it may explain his bad reaction.” The defense lawyer seeks to avoid a prison sentence: “What interest? A reprieve with obligations would be better suited.”
The court preferred to follow the requisitions: six months in prison and a warrant of deposit. The victim €500 in damages and €400 for his legal costs.
