Toulouse: employees of the Continental Basso Cambo site on strike
The employees of Continental Automotive, on the Basso Cambo site in Toulouse, have been on strike since May 19. Meetings with management are increasing for a salary increase.
Mandatory annual negotiations (NAO) are not enough to offset inflation. The employees of Continental Automotive, in Toulouse Basso Cambo, have decided to go to the “front” to demand an increase of 300 € for all employees, and in particular the low salaries of the company. The site, which employs 1,500 people, and from which electronic circuits intended for the automotive market come out, is idling, or even seems to be at a standstill according to the statements of some strikers.
“Nearly 90% of the people employed in production are on strike. All the teams are concerned”, specifies Stéphane Jaïch, CGT union representative of the company.
Negotiations have resumed
“Management tells us that inflation in 2021 was only 1.6%. But in reality, everyone notices that it was much higher”, take the delegate. The strikers do not intend to wait for the negotiations in 2023 to ask for a boost.
“Our purchasing power is collapsing and it will get worse. At the end of 2022, we could have inflation at more than 5% and that is an optimistic view. But for management, we have to wait for the 2023 negotiations to discuss it. In the meantime, you will have to tighten your belt. In addition, energy costs (gas, fuel and electricity) are artificially limited… But for how long? »
The management of the company would propose, according to the CGT, a 2% increase, which “would not even compensate for the inflation of the last 2 years”. It would also propose an integration in base salary and bonus of 62 € which will be made with part of the profit-sharing.
“300€ increase for all”
“It costs them nothing. But that does not bring us anything annually. They smoke us with one hand and we produce it with the other, ”adds Stéphane Jaïch, of the CGT.
For its part, the CGT is demanding a general increase of €300 for everyone, retroactive to January 1, 2022, massive hiring in all departments, or hiring temporary workers and subcontractors who want it.
Continental’s management, encouraged by The Midi Dispatch, was unable to answer our questions yesterday. The strike could extend beyond the Pont de l’Ascension movement if the negotiations, which resumed on Wednesday, May 25, did not succeed.
