Tertúlia do Centenário recalls winning the Portuguese Cup in 2013
Rui Vitória, Luís Esteves, Douglas and Leonel Olímpio share memories of Jamor
ASMAV – Associação de Socorros Mútuos Artística Vimaranense hosted the fourth Tertúlia do Centenário, organized by Vitória SC by the Centenário Committee as part of the celebrations of the club’s 100th anniversary, and in this edition, the focus was on what was the greatest achievement of professional football victorian: the Portuguese Cup in 2013.
Of the heroes heroes the greatest trophy in the history of Vitória de Vitória de Leão – they conquered, in this tertúl heroes conquered, the coach Rui, the coach, Luís Douglas and Olíel Olíel.
During the hours of sharing stories and two afternoons (and evenings) in May, there were several moments of greeting to these four fundamental elements in this achievement.
For Rui Vitória, Vitória SC’s coach at the time of the greatest achievement in his history, the triumph at Jamor was special. “I am here with pleasure. I had to come here to Guimarães in a different situation. I came here as an accessory, but I still haven’t had the pleasure of being here with you. It was a very important moment in my career and in the life of the club. It makes me proud to be connected to Vitória’s history. I am proud to know that I am in the hearts of the Victorians. Hopefully more trophies will come, but this was really the first.”
Rui Vitória’s technical team was specifically training the guardians of Victorian networks, and for him, having won the Cup that way was rewarded. “That day, that preparation was something special. It was a Guimaranese, a Victorian, preparing for that game. That day I was experiencing emotions with my family inside the locker room, but I was thinking about my family on the bench. Our goalkeeper family was special. Training Douglas remains in the memory. We tried to put our stamp on it, but the merit in the qualifiers with Vitória de Setúbal and Marítimo, who we won on penalties, was his”.
On May 26, 2013, Douglas was the goalkeeper who defended the Victorian goal, and now Moreno’s assistant in Vitória’s B team shared what he felt in the minutes after the second goal. “After the first goal… thinking about penalties. There was no time, we scored soon or second goal. After the second goal, every time the ball came to our area it was quiet, but every time it went away I started to feel cramps. It was 12 minutes like that… it worked out well”.
In turn, Leonel Olímpio, who entered the field with the captain’s armband, is recognized for the strength that the city gave in this conquest. “It will be marked forever. There were financial difficulties to deal with many difficulties. Those tears at the end were outbursts, duty accomplished. I hope that Vitória never goes through a moment of difficulties like that again. A gave us confidence and believed in that city that was very difficult. If it was another season, maybe you wouldn’t have finished the season, as well as some players. But, we were blessed with the achievement. Vitória already had more ‘popular’ squads, but we were the ones who marked Vitória’s history”.
This gathering is part of a series of activities encompassed in the celebration over the 100 years of Vitória Sport Clube, organized by the Centenary Commission in recent months.
