Schauspielhaus relies on EU-wide plays

The Schauspielhaus Salzburg recently became a member of the European Theater Convention (ETC), which is an EU-funded umbrella organization for European theater. This aims to network theaters and also to offer a platform for the development of new projects.
The Salzburger Schauspielhaus would like to find partner theaters across Europe in order to develop joint productions. Above all, new plays are to be developed, the stage language will be English.
English as the language of the younger generation
“We see that English has become a second mother tongue, especially among the younger generations. The people from twelve to 25 all grew up with Netflix and YouTube and all speak better English than we do, really across Europe. The new plays and stories should therefore also be understandable across Europe, not only in terms of language, but also in terms of subject matter,” says the acting director of the theater, Robert Pienz.
Umbrella organization brings together more than 40 theaters in Europe
A few days ago, the umbrella organization European Theater (ETC) accepted the playhouse’s application for membership at an international theater conference in Prague. In addition to the Landestheater Linz, the Schauspielhaus Graz and the Wiener Volkstheater, the Schauspielhaus Salzburg is the fourth Austrian member of the organization. Overall, the umbrella organization brings together more than 40 theaters across Europe.
