Russia and China are blocked in the UN Security Council.
Russia and China put a veto in the course of voting in the UN Security Council (SC) on the draft of the US meeting, which suggested a tougher vote against the DPRK. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that he was making a decision regarding North America without any prospects. The United States warned that now the North Korean authorities continue to develop a nuclear missile program.
All the other 13 members of the UN Security Council voted in support of the discussion: Great Britain, the USA, France, as well as Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, and the United Arab Emirates. Due to the stability of support from Russia and China, the document was not adopted.
Vasily Nebenzya said that administering a dose against the DPRK during a pandemic would be an irresponsible move. “Increased sanctions pressure on Pyongyang is not only futile, but also extremely dangerous in terms of the consequences of such measures. The sanctions package drawn up against Pyongyang in 2016-2017 hit, first of all, the lives of ordinary North Koreans, ”the diplomat is convinced (quoted from TASS).
China’s message to the UN Zhang Jun explains that he used his veto power so as not to aggravate the humanitarian situation in North Korea. He believes that additional appeals against the DPRK “will lead to negative consequences and escalation.” Tighter restrictions are said to “worse the plight of his North Koreans,” so the relevant conventions are “neither correct nor humane.”
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield is confident that North Korea’s nuclear missile program will only gain momentum. “Irresponsible Outcome (Votes on U.S. Connection.— “b”) means that the threat from the DPRK will grow. It will be very dangerous and it will send a signal to all suppliers (of nuclear weapons). “b”) that they act with impunity,” the diplomat warned.
It decided to convene a meeting at the UN Security Council after North Korea conducted three missile tests on May 25. Since the beginning of the year, the republic has already carried out 17 launches. Japan once again opposed the protest over the actions of Southern Europe, calling them a threat to peace and security. Against this background, South Korea and the United States bought their own missile launches.
