From July, there will be places in Prague where it is forbidden to drink alcohol
Prague has expanded the number of places where drinking is prohibited from 837 to 1036. The decree, which stipulates this, was approved by the deputies with effect from July. The ban will now also apply to the embankment, where the drinking ban will apply from midnight to 9.00.
The ordinance, which lists hundreds of places where drinking is prohibited, was last amended in 2013. According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hlubuček (STAN), the amendment aims to improve the enforcement of the ban and update the list based on city developments and district requirements.
The deputy added that the decree is primarily aimed at people who, in addition to drinking, also commit harmful behavior and disturb other residents. In such cases, the ban allows city police officers to be fined. “We will create a map where the places will be drawn, which will also be accessible in the mobile application,” Hlubuček added.
Drinking alcohol will be banned between midnight and 9.00 on the embankments along the Dvořák, Rašín and Masaryk embankments, on the Ludvík Svoboda embankment and on the Hořejší nábřeží in Smíchov. According to its representatives, the city is responding to the reservations and complaints of the inhabitants of Podskalí, where it is usually caused by private parties of visitors to the embankment until late.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages will also not be allowed on playgrounds and near school and medical facilities. Alcohol consumption will also be prohibited within 100 meters of the metro station entrances and on public transport platforms.
According to the document, the ban will not apply on December 31 and January 1 on New Year’s and New Year’s Eve celebrations. Exceptions to the ban will also be planned events such as vintages, concerts or sports events, as well as the gardens of restaurants and food stalls. (CTK)
