Formula 1 | Magnussen: The Monaco Grand Prix is in the DNA of F1
After seeing his Spanish Grand Prix spoiled by contact with Lewis Hamilton on the first lap, Kevin Magnussen hopes to experience more success this weekend in Monaco.
But if the Dane reminds us that the new F1 cars allow closer fights, he expects Monaco to remain Monaco and that overtaking there will therefore be complicated.
“I think these cars are much better at driving wheel to wheel, but Monaco is still a complicated circuit so that shouldn’t make a difference. It’s an incredible event, even if overtaking is not usual there.”
The Principality Grand Prix could see its place on the calendar threatened by other events in the future, but Magnussen would like to see it keep its place.
“I think it’s one of the circuits that defines the DNA of Formula 1. I understand that it might not be the most exciting race on Sunday, but the weekend as a whole is Truly unbelievable .”
This year, F1 cars will run on Fridays and not Thursdays as is traditionally the case in Monaco. The Haas driver does not yet know how much this will affect his program.
“I’ve done sponsor and media activities on a Friday before so I don’t know how it will be this time around but I’m not worried, the team always finds a way to keep me busy.”
It has now been three years since Magnussen last drove in Monaco, and the Dane talks about what this unique urban layout offers.
“It’s tough, and that’s what makes the race so exciting, it’s an incredible place to drive Formula 1. We’re used to seeing F1 cars in Monaco, but when you think about it is crazy. The streets are so narrow and the cars are so fast. It’s phenomenal and a lot of fun at the same time.”
