Formula 1 | Hamilton: In Monaco it will still be impossible to overtake
Lewis Hamilton believes that the historic circuit used by the Monaco Grand Prix leaves almost no chance for the improved F1 2022 to overtake.
The seven-time world champion also points to the narrowness of the F1 circuit used in the Principality, which is less and less suitable and very often makes the Sunday race monotonous if there is no safety car or rain to disrupt things.
“Our F1s are bigger than ever, wider than ever, the track the same width it always had and we’re faster than ever through Monaco, so the percentage chance of overtaking is miniscule.”
“The qualifying position will be encouraging throughout this year. We will have to avoid accidents and position ourselves well. The new F1s will not change anything in overtaking. Perhaps we can follow each other a little closer in the tunnel but it is not wide enough for us to be able to start a maneuver before it exits anyway.”
Hamilton, who has won the Monaco Grand Prix three times, described the circuit as “a track where you have to have butter and butter money in how you approach every corner.”
“At other circuits you sometimes brake a bit earlier and work to make sure you get a good exit from the corner; at Monaco you want to make sure you’re on top of the braking and as perfect as possible on the exit. .”
